Day 48 - Washington DC, District of Columbia, USA

Day 48 – 26th July 2005 -5:00 GMT

Woke up with a bit of a hangover, must have been a good night. We hung around the hostel for most of the morning and then caught the bus to the centre of Washington DC. The temperature is presently 102 F/39 C. We walked along The National Mall (which is a 2km park which runs perpendicular to the White House)

and then we decided to get out of the sun and visited the Air and Space Museum. (all Museum’s in Washington are free) which was very good, although it closed before we finished looking around,

then we went for a bite to eat and caught the bus back to the hostel.

Day 47 - Philadelphia - Baltimore, Maryland, USA

Day 47 – 25th July 2005 -5:00 GMT

Checked out of hotel at 11am and drove along the I-95 towards Boston, we stopped in Baltimore for a look around on the way. We first explored the harbour area which is where we stopped for food.

Then we walked along Historic Charles Street upto the Washington Monument and Mount Vernon Place.

It was so hot we then headed back to the car and drove on to Washington DC. We checked into the hostel and Jill got chatting with a welsh guy called James so we invited him out with us and went to a Malaysian Restuarant for dinner then stopped at a pub called “The Angry Itch” for a beer,

The barman was very friendly and gave me a pint of Jack Daniels, once he had heard Jill’s Jagermeister story’s it free drinks from then on, started with triple shots of Jager mixed with red bull, then free pints, then shots of some vanilla stuff, then more shots of Jager then a pint of guinnes with a depth charge of Baileys and Jamesons whisky, followed by a few more shots and more pints… can’t remember the rest of the night.

Day 46 - Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA

Day 46 – 24th July 2005 -5:00 GMT

Phildelphia is a wonderful city and nothing like I expected. It has rows of quaint houses and there are loads trees all around the city, you also find fountains around every corner.

We started this morning by going to see Independence Hall

Then we visited The Liberty Bell, The Liberty Bell was originally called The State Bell and was made in Whitechapel, England to mark the end of the revolution in the US. After that it was renamed the Liberty Bell and was a symbol of human rights, it inspired the americans during the abolition of slave labour and during womens rights.

We then walked up Market Street and looked at the City Hall

then through the JFK Plaza that has a giant love sign

We then went onto the Philadelphia Museum of Arts, whose steps were used in the film “Rocky 3”and known as the rocky steps.

We then went back to the hotel for a rest for an hour or so. We then walked along the waterfront

where a free concert was being held and we walked around the docks at Penn’s Landing.

We then went up South Street where we found an Indian Restaurant “Lovash” which served the best food. Then headed back to the hotel for the night.
