Day 565 – Christmas in the Sun

Day 565 – 25th December 2006 + 13:00 GMT Total Miles 91639

Merry Christmas Everyone !!!
Got woken up early by an excited Jill who wanted to open her presents. So we opened our presents and had a bit of a lie in bed. Got up around 10am and Jill opened the office at the hostel. The hostel had been decorated nicely with two Christmas tree’s and plenty of tinsel. We then had the mammoth task of cooking and feeding 25 people. With the help of Jill’ Kirstin and Vanessa, we got two huge turkeys cooked, hundreds of potatoes peeled, and Pumpkin, Kumara, Broccoli, sprouts, cauliflower, pea’s carrots, parsnips, Roast Potatoes and Mashed Potatoes Sausages wrapped in bacon and of course the vegetarian food all prepared and ready to eat. We watched junk TV throughout the day including Father Ted’s Christmas special and several Christmassy movies. We all sat down at 5pm and dinner was served, it was lovely we all had Christmas crackers and presents to open.

Then we had Christmas pudding, mince pies, cheesecake, and mud pie… which by this time everyone was stuffed, luckily we had some volunteers who washed up, and we drank lots of wine and feel asleep.

Day 564 – Christmas Eve

Day 564 – 24th December 2006 +13:00 GMT Total Miles 91631

Most of us from the hostel went out into the city for the evening, The city was so quiet with almost all the pubs being closed, the few that were open closed at 9:30pm. Eventually we found JJ Murphy’s which was open until 11:30pm and we all sat upstairs and played pool for several hours, we were pretty much the only people in the bar.
