Day 642 - Perth, Australia

Day 642 - 12th March 2007 +9:00 GMT

Had to get up early and catch a bus to Joondalup to pick up a hire car. I was given a Toyota Yaris, it was brand new and cheap to hire. Drove back to the house and then Jill and I drove out to Morley to look at some cars. We saw one car we liked but thought we would look at several more. So we then drove to Wangara and looked at several cars, we found one which we were very keen on but did not make an offer as we were looking at another car that night. We had arranged to look at a car from a private seller so drove over to Woodvale and looked at the car. We decided we liked it, it had a spot of rust and a few minor problems but it was $2500 cheaper than the ones in the dealers showrooms. When we got home we made an offer and had it agreed at $3500. The owner agreed to drop it of at the house on Wednesday morning. In the evening we cooked some dinner and then chatting with Peter and watched TV.

We then drove to The Chocolate Factory and you can help yourself to handfuls of samples of the chocolate drops. After a feast here we moved on to Ambrook Winery. The guy pouring out the samples seemed miserable and not very friendly, so we tried several bottles, Peter bought a couple but I did not bother. We then found a spot by the river and had a picnic which we had prepared and the food was fantastic.

Our Picnic

After a good feed we went to a Nougat factory where we had coffee and a free sample fo the many flavours of Nougat.

Onto the next winery which was Pinelli Wines. Here the wine was cheap and very nice. They do a flagon of wine (2 litres) for just $11.50. So I bought 6 flagons and a bottle of their rose.

We then drove up into the hills so you get to look back over the city of Perth as it is so flat you can see for miles.

Next onto Swan Valley Winery, here the wine was also good but I had drank enough wine so did not buy any more. Our last stop was the Feral Brewery here I ordered a Blonde Wheat Beer which was great and finished off the day nicely. We drove to Heathridge and had some food and spent the evening watching Austrlian Rules Football.
