Day 640 - Perth, Australia

Day 640 - 10th march 2007 +9:00 GMT

Today Sarah and Peter decided to take us to the swan valley wine region to do a bit of wine tasting. The drive only takes about 20 minutes and we started by stopping at Edgecoombe Brothers Winery. here we got to taste 8 bottles of their wine and they even made Sarah a cup of tea as she was driving. the wine was good and we bought a bottle of the Shiraz. We also got to taste all their jams and chutneys etc it was good.

We then drove to The Chocolate Factory and you can help yourself to handfuls of samples of the chocolate drops. After a feast here we moved on to Ambrook Winery. The guy pouring out the samples seemed miserable and not very friendly, so we tried several bottles, Peter bought a couple but I did not bother. We then found a spot by the river and had a picnic which we had prepared and the food was fantastic.

Our Picnic

After a good feed we went to a Nougat factory where we had coffee and a free sample fo the many flavours of Nougat.

Onto the next winery which was Pinelli Wines. Here the wine was cheap and very nice. They do a flagon of wine (2 litres) for just $11.50. So I bought 6 flagons and a bottle of their rose.

We then drove up into the hills so you get to look back over the city of Perth as it is so flat you can see for miles.

Next onto Swan Valley Winery, here the wine was also good but I had drank enough wine so did not buy any more. Our last stop was the Feral Brewery here I ordered a Blonde Wheat Beer which was great and finished off the day nicely. We drove to Heathridge and had some food and spent the evening watching Austrlian Rules Football.
