Day 148 - Napier - Wellington, New Zealand

Day 148 – 3rd November 2005 +13:00 GMT Total Miles 27962

Had to get up early so was out of bed at 8:30am, showered, had breakfast, bag packed and ready to leave by 10am. Hailey who is on reception there was a lovely girl and really made us all feel welcome so it was shame to leave. Just as we were leaving a guy called Austin from Austin, Texas asked is he could have a life to Wellington, so in our usual manner we said sure if you can fit in. So we repacked all the bags and managed to squeeze Austin into the car. Reece drove at first and we took the highway 2 south west stopping at Palmerston North for lunch. We found a shopping mall with a food court so we could all eat different types of food. After lunch it was back in the car and we the 56 then 57 and finally the highway 1 into Wellington and checked into the YHA there. It is a large hostel with 2 large kitchens, games room, 2 TV rooms a reading room and large lounges. The rooms are fairly small but it is all clean. It is a bit more expensive than the other places we have stayed but we are now in the capital. After we had unpacked out bags we had to move the car so Reece and I moved the car to a nearby parking bay and walked back to the hostel. At 6pm I called one of my old work colleagues who is now working in Wellington. Well it just so happened that they were 2 minutes away and we agreed to meet at 6:10pm. I meet Vanessa Alderman outside the YHA hostel and I introduced her to Jill and Reece and we went for a beer to catch up on all the news and gossip from SPML and life. We had a few beers in one bar then we had a wander around the city and settled on an Indian Restaurant for food. The people in the Indian were so nice and we had a lovely meal. Vanessa left us just after 9pm and Jill and I watched a bit of TV back at the hostel and went to bed.
