Day 144 - Taupo, New Zealand

Day 144 – 30th October 2005 +13:00 GMT Total Miles 27518

OK clocks have gone back in the UK so we are now 13 hours behind. Had breakfast in the hostel like usual and then spent most of the morning playing table tennis. Reece and I decided we would have a game off golf. Neither of us had played on a proper golf course so it would be interesting. We arrived at Taupo golf course and spoke with the guys there, they have two courses here and since a tournament is being played on one with had to play the other. So we hired clubs and initially agreed to play the first 9 holes and if we wanted to carry on we can pay the extra when we finish. We had to buy some golf balls but at least they gave us some free tee’s. We both started off pretty horrifically but after a few holes we started to play a lot better, Reece got on eon par and I got a few with a bogey (1 over par for those not familiar with golf terms) I made a lovely 20 yard putt. We played the whole 18 holes and you do not realise how far you walk, the distances between the holes add up to over 6km. Anyway for our first time I scored a high 140 and Reece got 147. If we had just taken the scores from the back 9 we would have looked a lot better. When we got back to the hostel we jumped in the hot tub for an hour and got chatting to an English girl and an Israeli guy. We then cooked dinner and headed down to a The Holy Cow pub in the town where Reece and I played pool and Jill watched. Jill phoned her parents and then we went back to the hostel for the night.
