Day 146 - Napier, New Zealand

Day 146 – 1st November 2005 +13:00 GMT Total Miles 27663

Today is Jill’s 26th Birthday ! Got up around 10am and grabbed a coffee from the kitchen then we all went into the centre of Napier. Now Napier is a newly built town as 90% of it was destroyed in the 1931 earthquake, it was rebuilt in an Art Deco Style and is the biggest concentration of Art Deco in the world.

We spent the morning wandering around the shops as Jill had a bit of money given to her for her Birthday.

I went back to the hostel and had a nap and a bite to eat and in the afternoon Reece and I left Jill to have some peace and quiet and we found the nearest Gold Course. It was a small course with only 9 holes and a par of 60 as you play each hole twice. My first round was a pretty good 47 and Reece’s 53 but the second round I had an awful 56 and Reece a 55. I made a couple of par’s and some amazing putt’s just need to learn how to drive straight with a wood, my shots tend to go 200 yards forwards then take a 90 degree turn to the right for 50 yards. Anyway we went back to the hostel and then we all went out for food, Jill decided she wanted Tapas so we found a Spanish Tapas bar and sat down to eat, only too find they had no Vegetarian dishes. So we left there and whilst searching for another restaurant saw an amazing multi-coloured sunset and found an Indian that served us some great food. We then went to a pub for a few more celebratory drinks.
