Day 161 - Franz Josef - Queenstown, New Zealand
Day 161 – 16th November 2005 +13:00 GMT Total Miles 29062
Packed our bags and checked out the hostel, loaded up the car and drove south on highway 6. We stopped in Fox Glacier for a few minutes to take some photos of Mount Cook.
Mount Cook is the centre Mountain tallest Mountain in Australisia
View from Knights Point
After 3 hours of driving we arrived in Wanaka, we decided to find a café and have some lunch. It is a gorgeous town overlooking the lakes and mountains.

We carried on and after about 30 minutes we got pulled over by a police car, luckily for me Reece was driving and got ticketed for over taking on a broken yellow line. That seemed crazy to me as it only says you can’t over take on a solid yellow line. The broken yellow line means a solid yellow line is coming up. Anyway can’t argue with the police and Reece got a $150 fine.

We arrived in Queenstown about an hour later and checked into our hostel. Bungi Backpackers is the place and they had made a mess up of the bookings and had given Reece’s bed to someone else so we let him share our room for the night. We took a wander around the town and I visited the Wharf Casino but no one was playing any table games so I did not stay for long.
Queenstown
Jill and I by the Lake in Queenstown
We headed back to the hostel and got some free soup and Reece and I played chess, then at 8pm we went back into town to The Lonestar Restaurant for steaks. The food here is superb, I had a great steak with a superb salad and potatoes. After we had eaten we went back to the hostel and I just chilled in the room watching TV.
