Day 671 - Margaret River, Australia

Day 671 – 10th April 2007 +7:00 GMT

We set off driving south and stopped at Caveworks which is a company that has tours of four different caves in the area. We paid to visit Lake Cave and while we were waiting for our tour had a look around the information centre that explained how the caves in the area were formed and the creatures that live in the caves.

We had to climb down 300 steps to meet our tour guide who then lead us down a further set of steps into the cave. The cave had some amazing stalactite and stalagmite formations.

We walked to the end of the cave and then the guide lit up different parts of the cave so we could view the formations.

It was fantastic to see but the tour was only around one room and only lasted about 20 minutes which is not very long for the money we paid.

We then left and drove the scenic route through Boranup Karri Forest. We kept driving until we reached Cape Leeuwin Lighthouse which is on the most South Western point of Australia where the Indian Ocean meets the Southern Ocean.

We had some lunch here and then had a walk up to the lighthouse, it is very windy in this area presumably due to where the oceans meet.

We then drove a little down the road to see an ancient waterwheel which used to pump the water to the workers who built the lighthouse in 1895.

We then made our way back North to Hamelin Bay which is a gorgeous beach with shallow waters often full of Sting Ray which are hand feed so you can go out and stroke them.

It had started to rain so we headed back to Margaret River, we then went into the local bar and had some drinks and some food.
